BARCELONA: SAGRADA FAMILIA

Today I would like to speak about La Sagrada Família, one of the most impressive buildings in Barcelona. Located between the streets Marina, Provença, Sardenya and Mallorca, stands the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, still under construction. Surely, when finished, It will be the most beautiful building in Barcelona.

The Sagrada Família is Antoni Gaudí’s best-known work and has become a symbol of Barcelona. Extravagant and ambitious, this unique modern cathedral has been under construction since 1882, and is expected to be completed by 2030.

The four towers on each façade represent the 12 Apostles. A dome-shaped tower will eventually crown the apse, symbolising the Virgin Mary. The four tall towers dedicated to the evangelists will encircle the central spire, which will be built over the crossing. This spire will represent the Saviour.

BARCELONA: CASA LLEÓ I MORERA

The Casa Lleó i Morera is one of the most important modernist buildings of Barcelona and it was designed by the architect Domènech i Montaner. However it isn't as popular as other modernist buildings maybe because it could not be visited until recently.

It is located in the elegant Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona near Casa Batlló (designed by Antoni Gaudí) and Casa Amatller (designed by Puig i Cadafalch (in what is known as "Manzana de la Discordia" or "Block of Discord" for the professional rivalry of the three architects of these buildings.

Currently you can visit the first floor which include rooms with very highly decorated wooden walls and ceilings, a hall with sculptures and mosaics and a gallery at the rear of the house with an impressive stained glass window.

Below you can see some pictures of my visit to this modernist building:
