ITALY: TUSCANY AND LOMBARDIA

After travelling to Rome last year, I have come back to Italy to visit two nice areas of northern Italy: Tuscany and Lombardia. There are really lovely villages in these two provinces of Italy, as well as the beautiful city of Florence.

This time I didn't rent a car because I could arrive at the cities and villages I wanted to visit by bus or train. Besides, I had read that it's easy to get lost on the winding roads of Tuscany.

However, I would recommend renting a car since you have more freedom, it's less tired and there are some lovely villages like Volterra, Monteriggioni o Montepulciano which can only be reached by car.

If you don't rent a car, you can easily reach Pisa and Lucca from Florence, and Lago di Como and Bergamo from Milano, by train. You can go from Florence to Siena and San Gimignano catching a SITA bus in Santa Maria Novella Station.

Next you can see the cities and villages I visited:

BARCELONA: MONTJUÏC

Montjuïc is, without any doubt, one of the most beautiful places in Barcelona and, from the Olympic Games in 1992, one of the most symbolic places in the city. Montjuïc vibrate with emotion during those fantastic days which showed Barcelona to the world. Nowadays, Montjuïc is a large green area perfect to walk, to spend a sunny sunday morning or to enjoy the fantastic views of Barcelona from the castle or one of its viewpoints.

I would recommend the following route to discover Montjuïc:

Next I would like to show you some pictures of these places. Clicking on the previous links you will find more pictures and information about these lovely environments in Montjuïc.

Poble Espanyol in MontjuicSince it was conceived in 1929, El Poble Espanyol has been considered as a different, unique space in the city. The aim of its construction was to give an idea of what might be an "ideal model" of a Spanish village containing the main characteristics of all towns and villages in the peninsula. Its urban layout – a real village with streets and squares, without wheeled traffic and in the natural surroundings of the hill at Montjuïc - has helped to create a special microcosm

BARCELONA: TWO NICE TEA HOUSES

Today I would like to speak about two charming tea houses in Barcelona: Caj Chai, in the Gothic Quarter, and La Feniciana, near Barcelona Sants Station.

Caj Chai Tea house

The first one is located next to Barcelona cathedral in the streets where the Jewish Quarter was located long time ago. This tea house is a fantastic place to rest for a while enjoying a delicious tea of its wide selection. Afterwards, you can keep walking along the charming streets of one of the most beautiful places in Barcelona: the Gothic Quarter.

The atmosphere of this tea house is really cozy and the traditional decoration is absolutely appropriate to the area of Barcelona where it's located.

La Feniciana

Inside La Feniciana you can enjoy two atmospheres: the first one is an arab tea house where you can enjoy teas with delicious baklawas (rich, sweet pastry filled with chopped almonds, nuts or pistachio).

The second one, is a restaurant of lebanese cuisine. I really like the warm decoration of this restaurant where lamps, walls decoration, tables and sofas make you think as if you were in a restaurant of any arab city. Of course, the quality and the service is excellent.

BARCELONA: ARAB BATHS AND HAMMAN

Today I would like to write about two Arab Baths and Hammams in Barcelona: Aire de Barcelona and Rituels d'Orient. I have already enjoyed both of them and I really recommend them.

In the heart of old city, in the Born District and near the Gothic Quarter, Aire de Barcelona has reliably restored an ancient Arab Bath, which adopted the ancient tradicion of the Roman Hot Baths and improved it.

Aire de Barcelona

Aire de BarcelonaOverview of two swimming pools of Aire de Barcelona

In Aire de Barcelona I enjoyed a route which submerged me in the warm waters of the tepidarium (36ºc) , in the hot waters of the caldarium (40ºc) and, finally, in the cold waters of the frigidarium (16ºc). I also enjoyed a relaxing massage on hot marble. if you wish, you can enjoy a steam baths in the Hammam too.

You don't have to bring slippers, towels bath elements. You can also acquire a bathing suit if you don´t have one.

  • Opened every day (except On December 25 and January 1)

Rituels d'Orient Hamman

When I went to Rituels d'Orient, one sunday morning, I enjoyed a steam bath as well as an exfoliation. In principle, the bath was 90 min long, but they told us that we could keep enjoying the bath until we wished. They were really nice to us and, at the end of the bath, they served us a delicious tea and a tasty baklawa. Truly, the treatment was excellent.

BARCELONA MEDIEVAL: MONTSERRAT

Yesterday, a lovely sunday, we spent a fantastic day in the Montserrat Abbey and Sanctuary, one of the most important monasteries in Catalunya, walking along the paths of the spectacular mountains of Montserrat.

Located 60 km away from Barcelona, this monastery is one of the most important symbols of the Catalan Culture as well as a bastion of resistance against the dictatorship. This mountain is actually a perfect place for hiking and climbing. Next, I would like to show you some pictures of the Montserrat Abbey and the walk along this singular mountain to the highest summit of Montserrat: San Jerónimo.

At the end of this post you will find some useful information about how to arrive.
