Today I would like to speak about La Sagrada Família, one of the most impressive buildings in Barcelona. Located between the streets Marina, Provença, Sardenya and Mallorca, stands the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, still under construction. Surely, when finished, It will be the most beautiful building in Barcelona.
The Sagrada Família is Antoni Gaudí’s best-known work and has become a symbol of Barcelona. Extravagant and ambitious, this unique modern cathedral has been under construction since 1882, and is expected to be completed by 2030.
The four towers on each façade represent the 12 Apostles. A dome-shaped tower will eventually crown the apse, symbolising the Virgin Mary. The four tall towers dedicated to the evangelists will encircle the central spire, which will be built over the crossing. This spire will represent the Saviour.
